Today a new epoch is closing, but one that is old in essence, says a commentator on this page. This is only part of the broader debate about transition, democracy, and the legacy of the past. If we are to be critical, we must also be critical of ourselves. The words of today’s Albanian politics still carry much of the mentality the country is trying to overcome. This page also devotes attention to a piece by Ben Blushi and the reactions to it. For a healthier democracy, openness is needed, not rhetoric. Too often, political language excludes the citizen from real debate.
